I’ve been into the Financial Independence/Retire Early (FIRE) movement since 2016. I had stumbled on Mr. Money Mustache and read a blog post a day until I caught up. Eventually I found the Mad FIentist, Go Curry Cracker, ChooseFI and the wide world of personal finance podcasts.

I went from doing target date funds to manually analyzing and choosing funds to optimize portfolio allocation. I’ve tried side gig after side gig, from Uber to Tradelines. I have downloaded and tried tons of finance apps. I’ve dabbled in crowdfunded real estate, private REITs, gotten my own rental. I’ve steadily increased my income through job hopping/career hacking.

Through all this I’ve tried to share my thoughts and experiences (infrequently) on this blog. The problem with blogging is that it takes a long time to build an audience. Many people will only stumble on your blog to use as a reference to some specific need. It’s rare that someone will read everything you post and continue to check back on it.

Podcasting

This brings me to podcasting. There are a ton of great pods out there, but the competition is much less and the intimacy with the listeners is way higher. You get to know the hosts, their quirks and feel like you know them. It’s a powerful medium and that is the direction I want to move.

The blog will still be here to capture show notes but for the most part I’m done trying to edit text, find free images, figure out SEO and grammar. Podcasting is quite a bit easier in that regard, and I feel like I can help more people in a more effective way than through blogging.

CryptoFI: The Future of Frugal$tu

I’ve also taken a new interest in cryptocurrencies and am starting a new blog with Squarespace. I’m going to be taking a practical approach to cryptocurrencies and exploring the opportunities there for the FI minded people out there. There is a lot of hoopla out there in this space, so I’m hoping that I can demystify some of it and appeal to the very logical and traditional way of investing. I invite you to give me a shot and learn why you ought to put 1-10% of your investable assets into crypto. Check out GetBitcoinFI.com to learn more. This will also have it’s own podcast associated with it, with blog posts on the basics and even some Youtube tutorials.
